Editing

As an editor with more than a decade of experience, I have worked on anything from consumer materials to trade publications.

Blogs and Online Articles

I edited a large amount of material for a non-profit that helps children and families. I proofread certain materials on the site, including an article on teddy bears “taking over” a soccer game and a fun event featuring designer purses to help the cause of child abuse prevention. I also edited articles on Fish Channel (FishChannel.com), such as this bonus piece on breeding.

eBlasts

Editing and rewriting e-mails to donors and other non-profit supporters was a huge part of my last role. I also assembled the e-mails in platforms such as Act-On, MailChimp and Luminate Online.

Magazines

I worked as a full-time editor for years on magazines published by BowTie, Inc./Fancy Publications, including Aquarium Fish International (previously known as Aquarium Fish Magazine) and its sister publications. A couple of examples of material I edited include this article on the copperband butterflyfish and this product review.

I was fortunate to have been with the company until Aquarium Fish International‘s last issue. Before that, I also worked on the company’s small animal titles, such as Ferrets Magazine and Critters USA; afterward, I wrote several freelance articles for the company.

Books

Working at a legal publisher, I worked on complex legal manuscripts, some of them up to 2,000 pages long, as well as on eBooks. I had also edited some books for consumers while at BowTie, Inc.

Newsletters

I served as the main editor on the quarterly newsletters at Olive Crest for five to six years. The newsletter was both in digital and print forms; the lead article was always republished on the website, such as this story about Ruby.

Marketing and Event Collateral

My experience also includes a large amount of marketing and event collateral, including flyers, booklets, brochures, posters, event programs and more. Target audiences have included the general public, donors and subject-matter experts.
